Reasons I Dislike Working with the Public and the Responses I Dream of Saying

People Have The Constant Need For Freebies

  • I feel as though most people nowadays come to a buisness looking for reasons to get a handout.  Anything…I mean anything goes wrong…that automatically means you should be looking for ways to “compensate them.”  And yeah, nothing is ever good enough.  Unless you mention the word free, they are complaining for what seems like endless time or threatening to go to corporate.  For example, (no this is not a joke) I had a woman who came in early after checking an incorrect time for her showing.  She then proceeded to harass my employees as well as myself because the time she read in the paper was incorrect
  • Example
    • “It is absolutely ridiculous that the company can’t get the times right in the paper! I mean this is inconvenient!  Now I have to waste my time!  40 minutes?!?! What am I going to do for 40 extra minutes?!?”
  • Dream Response:
    • Gee lady I don’t know…maybe you should have used that 40 minutes to go to reliable sources like the hotline, which is updated weekly, or checked the internet.  But please continue to complain and give us all a headache.

Everyone Becomes a Blatant Liar When They Think They Can Benefit From The Situation

  • Example:
    • “Well I came here last week and the price was different!”
  • Dream Response:
    • False the prices haven’t changed in years (until very recently)
  • Example:
    • “I am related to so and so…that means I get free admission and free food”
  • Dream Response
    • I have never seen you before in my life…kindly remove your face from my presence.
  • Examples:
    • “I gave you a $50.00!
      • You are trying to short change me!”
    • OR:
      • “You probably put it in your pocket!”
  • Dream Response
    • Well then i must be a magician and not know about it because there are no $50.00s in my register.
    • Also, I have no pockets…

Then admission on their part…

  • “I guess I must have dropped it…”
  • Dream Response
    • Yeah maybe you dropped it in the middle of the highway…please go try to find it while traffic is oncoming.

You Are Automatically a Racist

  • This happens a lot. Somebody might expect something of you (see freebies) that is just not possible. Lets say they want an additional bag or cup.
  • My Explanation
    • “Unfortunately these are counted and I cannot give you more than you have already received upon paying. You can buy another one at full price if you want or take a tray”
  • Their Response
    • “Yo man. That is messed up. I aint paying full price for no damn Cup. I bet anyone else they would get whatever they asked for…Didn’t you give that other guy a free cup”
  • Dream Response
    • Yes you are right. It is because I am a different race that everything is inventory. Just. Stop!  That is how business works!  Educate yourself before you make yourself look dumb…oh wait…too late.

Price Complaints

  • Example
    • “Damn!  $8.00 for large popcorn! What is in that?  Gold?”
    • “Holy shit! It is $20.00 for a large drink and popcorn!  I bet that popcorn is stale as hell anyway.”
  • Before I state my dream response, I need to share information with you readers.  The large popcorn bag is 170oz.  The large drink! Yeah that is 44 ozs.  Larges come with free refills.  If you refill a large drink just once, it is the equivalent of a 2 liter bottle of Pepsi!  (I have done this experiment myself and I am not exaggerating)
  • Dream Response
    • I am sorry you feel the need to stuff your faces beyond capacity, but you are getting more than enough.  We all know you are going to buy it anyway.  You are also going to put enough butter on the popcorn to clog your arteries and come to refill the soda so your blood turns to liquid sludge.  But please continue, I love when you give me an attitude about something beyond my control.

People Turn into Slobs As Soon As They Leave Their Homes

  • Just because you come out to a place of business does not give you permission to leave your trash everywhere. When you purchase something, throw out your garbage! Yes there are spills that happen. It is expected. But I cannot even tell you the amount of times I have heard
  • “They have ushers to do that!”
  • “Whatever I ain’t pickin up my trash. That is what the employees are for.”
  • Dream Response:
    • Contrary to popular belief out job is not o pick up after your lazy asses because you don’t feel like it. You bought it and finished it. Throw it in the damn trash you pass on the way out. Otherwise you will be the first to complain that the cleanliness is not up to your par. So shut your mouths.

Never Ending Phone Calls

  • Some people do not understand that the Movies operate on SEASONAL HOURS.  Meaning, when school is in session, the theater does not open until 1pm.  Therefore, you can call as many times as you want  and leave as many nasty voicemails from 8:00am until opening.  It does not change the fact that nobody is in the building.  But please leave messages, I need something to laugh at when I start my day 🙂

Rewording Questions They Didn’t Like Hearing The Answer To The First Time

  • Examples and Actual Responses
    • “How much is a senior ticket for matinee?”
    • Everyone is $8.50, unless it is 3D then it is $11.50
    • “What about after matinee?” (I explain the price)
    • “So senior prices are lower than everyone, even during matinee”
    • “My kid is 4…do I have to pay for him/her”
    • Yes 2 and over are required to purchase tickets
    • “How old did I say my kid was….I mean 2.”
  • Dream Response
    • There aren’t words that would describe my frustration at endless questioning.  I would love to just slam my head on the counter and wait until they leave

  • Examples
    • Eye Rolling
    • Yelling
    • Calling employees horrible things
  • Dream Response
    • Excuse me? Where do you work?  Oh perfect!  I will be there 30mins before you get there so I can continually complain that you were late, roll my eyes at you, yell at you, and call you dumb.  Sound like a plan?  I think so too!

Because You Work A Minimum Wage Job, It Means You Are Dumb

  • I hate this more than I can even begin to describe.  So many people I work with have either graduated or are attending college in addition to working part time.  It is extremely hard to find a job nowadays, so anything you get you take.  Money is money, even though it is an insignificant amount.
  • Example
    • People double or triple count the change you had already counted right in front of them
    • They disrespect you because you are wearing a uniform
    • They constantly tell you whatever you are saying is wrong and they need to speak to a manager (or if you are a manager…they want to see a different one)
  • Dream Response
    • Just. Go. Home.  Please make sure the door hits you in the ass on your way out.
