Cartoons I Miss

Allyssa introduced our little October project so wonderfully so there is no need to explain it further.  I am just going to jump right into my question for this week.

What show from your childhood would you love to bring back?

I have been thinking about childhood cartoons a lot in recent weeks.  Why? Well, while I am at work, I have the pleasure (or not, depending on how you look at it) to listen to our “FFT Playlist.”  It is an eclectic mix to say the least.  But on that playlist you will find various theme songs and show tunes ranging from the oh so popular cartoon Spongebob Squarepants.  We have “Ripped Pants”, “Sweet Victory”, and of course the “F.U.N. Song.”  But, hidden in that playlist are little gems that include the theme song from Ren & Stimpy in addition to the “Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy” song.  It was just yesterday that I said to one of my coworkers “Whatever happened to good cartoons?  You know the ones that were probably way to too inappropriate for our age but, nobody gave a shit what you were watching probably because nobody cared.”

So let me get back to the question.  What show would I bring back?  It is simple.  I cannot just choose one, so maybe some would consider that a fail.  However, if you look back at the 90s cartoons…how could anyone just pick one show?! Sure they were raunchy and completely inappropriate.  And yes, they were probably geared more toward an “adult” audience, but it still did not change the fact that all kids from our generation knows these shows and watched them at least once or twice.  Here are some that I would love to see on television again.

Back when I was younger, I loved the classic shows.  Let us start with Ren & Stimpy.  Looking back now, I really have no idea how this was ever considered a child’s cartoon.  Maybe the fact that it was laced with sexual innuendos and all other sorts of inappropriate nonsense is what made that show so damn amazing.  I really could not tell you.  Who can ever forget the scene where Ren takes off his skin to take a bath or the leaky faucet that causes Ren to go bat shit insane?  Thinking about these scenes now makes me realize how much I truly miss this show.  As a matter of fact, I did acquire a few seasons on DVD.  Now that I think about it, I am going to start watching.

Rocco’s Modern Life

Rocco’s Moderrrnnn Liiiiifffeeee, Rocco’s Modern Life!!  Now I am willing to bet that all of you are singing that theme song after reading that.  I used to love everything about this show.  I probably still would if it was on TV.  Who could dislike the lovable characters such as Heff, Rocco, and Spunk.   This is another one of those shows that was full of sexual references. I mean, c’mon Mr. Big frequently read porno mags.  I bet when you were younger you didn’t catch that one did you?  I think all of us who remember these shows should take a look back and see all the gold that our young minds just could not comprehend at the time.

Aaahh!!! Real Monsters.  Don’t you miss the tv shows were things such as monsters come out of the toilet?  No? That is just me?  Oh.  Well okay then.  It still doesn’t change the fact that if you have never watched this show, you should.  Go do that now actually

I also loved Courage the Cowardly Dog for some reason.  I would wake up early before school, when it was on the 7:00am/7:30am time slot just so I could watch with my bowl of cereal.  So “BOOGA! BOOGA! BOOGA!” to all of you.
