Happy Fourth of July! Doesn’t feel like your typical holiday this time of year in the northeast since Hurricane Arthur decided to pay us a visit along with some other storms. It’s currently 73 degrees and windy where I am in New Jersey, and it feels quite chilly. Thankfully the rain has ended and it should be decent enough out for some fireworks later tonight. I’ve always liked Fourth of July…it’s right smack dab in the middle of the summer which makes me quite happy. Some of my favorite memories are of my family and neighbors all going to a local park and spending the day listening to live music and eating and playing games on our blankets and lawn chairs, followed by fireworks to round out the day. As far as I can remember, we always had nice days so rolling around in the grass on those hot days were fun for us kids. More recently, I’ve been trying to do my own thing with friends this holiday. One of the best Fourths I’ve had the past several years was heading down the Jersey Shore. Spending the day on the beach with friends, going out to dinner, sitting on the jetty watching fireworks, and heading back to the house to sit on the porch with a few drinks is really the ultimate summer day. Today isn’t quite that day this year due to such awful weather, so here’s hoping we see some fireworks tonight and have a great weekend to make up for it! Go celebrate, because ‘Merica!
