Things That Go Through My Head While Working on a Jigsaw Puzzle

I recently decided I needed a hobby. Also, now that I live much closer to work, I no longer have a crazy long commute to listen to podcasts during. So I need a hobby that keeps my hands and eyes busy while I can concentrate on listening to podcasts (I just don’t want to give any more up). The hobby I chose? Jigsaw puzzles. I like logic-type puzzles. I like pictures of things. I like arts and crafts, even though I have zero artistic talent. I am remarkably good at sitting still for long periods of time. It seemed like a good plan to me.

So I bought a box of four Thomas Kinkade 500 piece puzzles. I love Thomas Kinkade art, and I super love Disney. And then I started working on the Lion King puzzle, and I think it made me slowly devolve into madness and Lion King quotes. Here are the things I think while working on this specific puzzle, from when I begin to when I give up:

  • This was such a good idea. I love puzzles.
  • Ooooh I made an elephant!
  • Look at how cute baby Simba is.
  • That’s a lot of yellowy purpley pieces.
  • From the dayyyy we arrived on the planet….
  • My back hurts.
  • 500 pieces is actually kind of a lot.
  • I’m hungry.
  • Monkey!
  • Doing the outside is so easy, but the inside is so difficult.
  • I don’t have nearly enough space in my apartment to be doing this.
  • Okay, my back really hurts.
  • I’m gonna be a mighty king, so enemies beware. I’ve never seen a king or beast with quite so little hair!
  • Why doesn’t this piece fit here? IT LOOKS LIKE IT SHOULD FIT HERE.
  • Why is the area around Scar so purple?
  • What do you do with a puzzle once you finish it?
  • I don’t want to be one of those people who frames puzzles.
  • I’ve only managed to put together the border and the characters.
  • Zazu! Oh, I love that snarky banana beak. That’s Mr. Banana Beak to you!
  • Why am I doing this when I could be watching the actual Lion King?
  • I’m not sure I like puzzles.
  • In fact, I’m pretty sure I hate them.
  • Am I finished yet?
  • I’m still hungry.
  • Aaaare you aching? Yup, yup, yup. Foooor some bacon? Yup, yup, yup. He’s a big pig! Yup, yup. You can be a big pig too! Aye!
  • I can’t find this one damn piece. What if it’s missing? Oh my God if this piece is missing I’m going to flip out.
  • Oh, there it is.
  • Just looking at Mufasa makes me want to cry.
  • Mufasa. Oh. Do it again. Mufasa, Mufasa, Mufasa. Oh, it tingles.
  • I think my back is numb.
  • Why don’t these pieces fit togetherrrr
  • I hate this so much.
  • Oh my God. Oh my God.
  • I’m freaking out.
  • I can’t do this anymore.
  • Caaaaan you feel the love tonight?
  • I think maybe I might not be a puzzle person.
  • Why do people do this?

You know, an afternoon of puzzling usually goes something like that.

  1. I thoroughly enjoyed your free associating.

  2. Your nephew has a 24 piece puzzle that I found hard to put together the first time. The thought of 500 pieces hurts my head.
